Frank White is a social destination for the progressive and global. It is a haven for those who have an interest in fine food, art, music, design, film, fashion, and international affairs. Frank White serves up gourmet coffee and treats, but it definitely isn't your typical coffee shop experience with it's custom Damask print wallpaper, crystal chandeliers, antique furniture, and outdoor garden deck. The shop was nominated "2008 Best New Coffeehouse" by Time Out NY magazine in their annual Eat Out Awards. The gallery features the works of emerging visual artists while the social lounge (aka Frank White after dark) is the hangout for local/international hipsters, fashionistas and cool kids (Mos Def recently stopped in) while international DJs spin guest sets such as Japan's legendary DJ Muro who played when he visited NY to spin the Murakami opening at The Brooklyn Museum. The space is also utilized as a venue for select private events, intimate gatherings and photo/video shoots.
décor The décor is reminiscent of an old world formal dining room complete with custom Damask print wallpaper, dark hardwood floors, crystal chandeliers, antique wood and brocade furniture. The 1200sf garden/patio is designed with a wood deck for outdoor entertaining. awards Nominated "Best New Coffeehouse' Time Out Magazine 2008 Eat Out Awards
the history of our name: The legendary rapper Notorious B.I.G. took on the alias Frank White after the mob boss played by Christopher Walken in Abel Ferrara’s film, King of New York. Frank White is located at St. James and Atlantic in Brooklyn, the block where Notorious B.I.G. (considered the rap King of New York) was born and raised. Naming the café Frank White was in honor to his legacy as an artist that came from the neighborhood.
